Here is a simple chicken dish that has mild curried flavour and can be adjusted according to your own tastebuds. I buy fresh chicken drunsticks for these dish as they are simple to cook and the meat is just nice and tender.

500g fresh chicken drumsticks
8tbsp of multi purpose crispy flour
1tbsp of curry powder
8tbsp of water

60g of onion sliced
40g of ginger sliced
4 slices of galangal
5tbsp of curry spice mix
1 tbsp of tumeric powder
1 tsp salt

Firstly rub the drumsticks with salt and rinse it. Pat it dry. Add the marinade ingredients well and place in fridge for about an hour.

On a small bowl, mix the crispy flour and curry powder with water until it forms a batter. Dip the drumsticks into it and coat sides evenly. Deep fry the chicken drumsticks for about 3mins on low heat and increase to medium heat. When it is golden brown remove and drain.

Have you ever roasted duck drumsticks instead of the whole duck? The drum is easier to handle than the whole duck. Try this and it is simple for the whole family to enjoy.

4 duck drumsticks

10g spring onion
10g ginger
2pcs star anise
10g coriander stems
1 tbsp white rice wine
4 tsp five spice salt

For colour
30mls white vinegar
20mls water
40g maltose
20ml red vinegar

Rince the duck drumsticks. Pat it as dry as you can. Add the marinade on the drunsticks in a mixing bowl and marinade for about almost an hour. Remove the duck from the marinade. In a small bowl, mix the colour ingredients and set it aside.

Soak the marinated duck with the colour mix. Remove the duck and drain it well. Place the duck on a baking sheet that has been glazed with a little oil.

Bake in a medium oven for 15mins each side, turning once. You might like to glaze it before turning with the remaining colour mix. Each side should not be roasted for more than 15mins for the first flip. The second turn takes maximum 5mins before you serve.

Example, if your birthday falls on the 25th of July, add 2 and 5 you get 7.4.Whatever is the sum, write a list of the MATERIAL gifts you wish to receive, the number of which shall correspond to the sum of your birthday. For example, applying the case above (in rule number 3), you will write seven (7) things you wish to receive.

I was so happy when I received a little tip online about making lip balm. I have been buying lots and lots of lip balms and some are really expensive. I think making lip balm will be an interesting thing so I'd like to share the recipe here in case I lost it one day.

You will need:
2 teaspoon of Beeswax (you can get Beeswax Pearls)
7 drops of Jojoba Oil/Sweet almond oil
1 tsp of Honey
5 drops of your favourite essential oil (tea tree oil, rosemary, camphor oil are some example)
A tube or container for storage

Firstly, you will need to mel the jojoba oil together with the beeswax. You can use a double boiler. Make sure the beeswax is all melted and mixed evenly with the jojoba oil.
Remove this melted liquid and add the honey. Using a whisk, whisk them together.
Leave the whisked mixture to cool, before totally cool, you can drop the essential oil and mix the mixture well.

You can store it in a tube or container of your choice.

The thicker the Beeswax, the thicker the consistency of your lip balm. Try to play around the Beeswax and Sweet Almond Oil to understand the texture.

I love to use this recipe for barbeques as well as for baking. It is simple and can be marinade in advance a day ahead to save time.

6 pcs Mid Joints Chicken Wings ( my favourite part of Chicken Wings )
2 tbsp Honey

120mls light soy sauce
4 tbsp premium light soy sauce
(the light ones are basically more salt and water whereas the premium ones are more soy based)
2 tsp dark soy sauce
1 tbsp ginger juice
6 cloves of chopped garlic

Rinse the chicken and pat it dry. Mix the marinade in a mixing bowl, and add the wings in. Cover with cling wrap and marinade in the fridge for a few hours. Preheat the oven at medium heat. Glaze a baking tray with some oil. Grill the wings in the oven for about 10 mins and turn the chicken once. Make sure as you are doing that, glaze the wings with the honey evenly. Increase the oven temperature to 200deg C. Grill the other side for 10 minutes. If you are not serving it immediately, cover it with aluminium foil and leave it in the warm oven until ready to serve.

If you liked Prawn Paste Chicken that has been deepfried, this is recipe that is using the same type of Prawn Paste (shrimp paste as some is known), but on minced meat. Try this, it's savourish and yummy. It is also another one of my easy dish that is simple and baked in the oven. Recipes like that are good if you are entertaining guests. While baking, you can attend to other stuff before your guests arrive.

Ingredient A
200g Minced Chicken
100g Prawn Paste
1 Egg
Coriander Stems
50g Salted Fish (diced)
Diced Water Chestnuts (about 5 is good)
4 Cloves of Garlic, chopped coarsely

1 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tbsp potato starch
half tsp sugar
1 tbsp wine
pepper to taste

Mix the ingredients in A well in a small mixing bowl. Add in the marinade and mix them all well enough to form a sticky paste. Mould the paste into little patty balls. Preheat oven at 170 deg C. The patties need to be placed on a layer of aluminium foil, drizzle with light oil. Bake the meat patties for 10 minutes. Turn the patty once, then increase the oven temperature to 180deg C. Bake the other side for another 10 mins. Serve on a plate lined with banana leaves and chopped coriander on top (optional). Before serving you may like to squeeze some lime for some tangy flavour.

I enjoy Lambs especially Lamb Chops. If cooked just right, it taste heavenly. If overcooked or using the wrong cut the meat may turned out tough and rubbery. This is an easy recipe for those who would like to try using the oven instead of the grilling pan on stove top. I call it the Oriental Lamb Chop.

300g Lamb Chops
Roasted Sesame Seed (optional)

25g Minced Garlic
1tsp Chopped Rosemary
1tsp Chilly Powder or Paprika (according to your level of spiciness)
10g Pepper
20g Wine
1tsp Minced Lemon Grass
1tsp Fish Sauce

Rince the lamb chop. Mix the Marinade above and apply it on to the lamb chops. Keep in the fridge for about 2 hours. In a wok, saute the lamb quickly till you get a nice fragrant smell. Remove it and place the sealed Lamb Chops on a baking tray, glazed with little oil. U may like to use aluminium foil for easy cleaning. Preheat the oven at 180deg C. Grill the chops for about 10-15 mins on each side. Increase oven heat to about 200deg C at the second part then turn and grill another 7mins. Sprinkle with some sesame seed (optional) Serve with potato wedges and some blanched vegetables.

Do you know the benefits of Bicarbonate of Soda? I have a few bottles of that whenever I am doing my grocery shopping. Not only I use them in my baking, but I use them alot for cleaning and dehumidifying.

Try these out.
If you mix a tablespoon of it into a pail of water, you can use it to clean your silverware. It will shine beautifully.

This magical powder will also help to remove the black soot from the frying pans and also the underside of your pots.

If you have carpets with pets in the house, your carpet will stink after a while. Sprinkle Bicarbonate of Soda on the carpet and let it stand an hour. You might want to do it when there's no one at home. Brush it a bit if you can taking care not to fluff up the powder too much. Gentle slow brushing is just to make sure the powder is applied onto the carpet. Vacumm you carpet and you will have fresh smelling carpet. And it absorbs moisture too.

I also leave open jars of it in my food cabinet and refrigerator to remove any strange smell.

Try it.

As a parent, I do all I can to keep my children safe and sound in many ways than one. A normal day goes by with me driving my young child to nursery and my elders to school, music, drama classes back and forth.

Recently in the papers, a child sitting in a school bus had been flung out and died on the way to the hospital. Saftey harness is an important fixture than many who drives kids had overlooked. A child does not have the instant reaction to hold on to something should a car or any vehicle were to brake without notice. I have a car seat in the family car and I make sure my youngest daughter is properly seated and buckled up whenever we are on the move. The kids have both graduated from the infant car seat to the child's car seat that can seat a child up to about 8 years of age. I am now looking for a second car seat as the current one is in the family car. I will need to get a second one for my car in which I use most often when driving the girls to classes. That will save a lot of trouble moving the car seat from one car to another. You may want to read about some safety tips and buying guide with regards to buying a car seat for your lovely young child.

I have just learnt that tomatoes are not that difficult to grow.. To grow tomato plant, you need three important things. Sun, Water and room for it to grow. Tomato plants are very leafy and grows not that many tomatoes. An easy tomato to grow would be the Cherry Tomato. You can grow them in your balcony if it gets alot of sunlight. Tomatoes need as much sun as possible and loves to have warm soil.

I have my tomato plant grown from the seeds. I have not tried growing them from drying of the fruit but that will be my next mission. I also crush some egg shells on to the soil prior to watering them to give them enough calcuim. I also read that if you add some club soda on your plants, it helps to add hydrogen into the soil and gives the plants a nutritous look.

I love beef. When I go to a restaurant I like to order steaks at medium done. Depending on my mood only I'll go for medium rare. I just feel squemish dealing with meats that are raw, so I like mine medium.

There are many ways to cooking steak. Medum Rare steaks take about 2mins to 4mins depending how hot is the pan. Medium will take about 4mins to 6mins. Steaks are preferably turned only once. If you like to have your steaks well done, the most you can go is 7mins. For well done steaks cook them initially with a bigger flame for 2 mins, then reduce the flame for the rest of the 5mins. It works for me. But depending on the quality of the cut of the beef and the type of beef you are using, each result may still vary. I love the US Corn Fed beef which are very good. The Australian ones are not too bad but may be slightly tough. A lot also has to do with the diet of the cow.

Marination is very simple for steak. On a freshly bought air flown steak salt and pepper is the best to get the best beef flavour. Sometimes one can add some garlic powder or rub some crushed garlic on each sides just before grilling.

I love to bake cakes for convienent snacks. There is a simple recipe for a cake with peanut butter cream sandwiched in between. I love sandwiched cakes. They are just absolutely yummy with the creams oozing out from the sides.

This recipe was given to me by my friend from school. She makes these and serves it during tea and it is also very presentable for party food.

Orange butter cakes
125g unsalted soft butter
2 eggs
half cup sugar
1 cup self raising flour
1 tsp vanilla essence
half cup fresh orange juice

Cream butter and sugar in a mixer for about 2 minutes. add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well with each addition. Add in the vanilla essence and orange juice.

Fold in flour and pipe the batter into circular shapes on baking pan lined with greaseproof paper. Bake in the low-moderate oven for about 20 minutes. Cool the circular cakes.

Peanut Butter Cream
100g cream cheese
30g butter
100g baking chocolate
half cup cream
2tbsp peanut butter (from the bottle)

Melt the butter, chocolate and cream over boiling water. Stir it consistently. When the chocolate melts, add the cream cheese, peanut butter and mix it untill it became a smooth creamy texture. Chill the cream in the fridge for an hour or more.

Pipe this chilled cream sandwich between cakes. It's really refreshingly yummy.

Chopsticks = Kuai Zi - See Chinese Characters. Did you know that Chopsticks were being developed from as long as over 5000 years ago, in China. During that time, the early man usually uses sticks or branches that were broken from trees. It was being used for the retriving of food from the blazing fire. When man become more resourceful, they use rocks that have been sharpened like a knife to cut the food into smaller pieces since it cook faster and they could save some parts or the meat for later. Using sticks on smaller pieces of food made handling meat easier and these were the utensil that had evolved into 'chopsticks'.

Chopsticks (Kuai Zi) become the prominent cutlery on the dining table because the ancient philosopher's teachings disapprove of having a knife on the table as it depicts something dishonorable and is a sign of violence and aggression.

Chopsticks had spread onto other countries by 500 A.D. such as Korea, Vietnam and also Japan. Japanese chopsticks gain popularity and they originally resembled 'tweezers' with two pieces joined together at the top end. By 10th Century, these chopsticks become two pieces. Japanese chopsticks are shorter (about 7-8 inches) compared to Chinese chopsticks (9-10 inches)

In Chinese taboo practise, it is unlucky to use a pair of chopsticks that are of different length. Some believe that one will be missing out on the next transportation he or she planned to be on. Also, my grandmother used to say that it is bad luck to drop your chopsticks...

"The honorable and upright man keeps well away from both the slaughterhouse and the kitchen. And he allows no knives on his table."
Quotable quote by Confucius

Many a times, people think that boiling an egg is very simple. Well it is, if you get your timing right. One can have hard boiled egg, soft boiled or in between. There are different methods to boiling an egg.

Here is a simple way to tell if your egg is hard boiled or not.

Place the egg on the countertop. Let it lay on it's side. Try to spin the egg and look at the egg closely. How does it spin? Does it wobble and stop? If it wobbles, you egg is not hard boiled. A hard boiled egg will spin freely. So there, you have it.

There is this other method, which may be fun to try out. If you are able to pick the egg using a pair of chopsticks, your eggs are hard boiled.

What kind of pants do you wear to the office daily. Many of my male friends love to put on trousers that they feel smart for the office and later on when they go clubbing it's still comfy and looks smart casual. A prominent clothing brand that breathes smart, casual, yet elegant goes by none other than the brand Dockers. It has been a favourite brand among my colleagues for some time and it has also gone from office to clubbing scene to casual smart pants for golfing as well as casual weekend wear.

How about showing that creative side of yourself by participating in a Dockers contest . This contest is to be done in video and submitted to and it will be put up for viewing for everyone to vote. There are already some videos that had been posted. My favourite video vote in the website is entitled Historically, by Scotthduke. Sometimes we may have guests that may decide to visit with only few hours of notice. So when that happens how do you make preparations for an appetizer that is yummy and simple? I've done this before for a friend when she was entertaining. It is simple and is great at wine and cheese party too.

It's a homemade Cheeseball. There are many variations that people make but this is the combination that I really enjoy. I usually store a box of uncut chedder cheese in my fridge that I can use them readily for any occasion. Sometimes it is also handy to buy those that have been shredded too.

3 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
1 bottle of bacon bits (you can bake these in advance and keep them in air tight bottles for your salads)
1 handful of chopped pecans or almonds
Chopped parseley
White Onions chopped fine
Mayonaise/ or Cream Cheese
Ritz or cream crackers

Mix all the ingredients (except the crackers) together. Add mayonaise little by little until it is enough for all to be held together like a ball.

On a cling wrap, place the 'balled' mixture in the centre and wrap it up tight to keep the shape round. Next, chill it in the fridge untill your guests arrive. Place the ball (without the cling wrap) on a serving dish and the light crackers at the side. Place a small butter or fish knife for your guests to help themselves to the cheese and crackers.

Unrated and Uncut. But definitely not for those under 16 years of age. This movie certainly will make many movie goers sit up and start tongues wagging. Frontier(s) is a horror movie that will be screened in the theaters from May 9th. Creepy, scary, grissling horror flick, definitely will make your skin crawl. If you have no guts to catch it in the cinema, you can wait for the release of the DVD version set to be released on May 13th.

Writer-director Xavier Gens managed to put all other horror films to shame. An After Dark film, this was originally meant to be released as one of the horror fest lineup in 2007, however got a NC-17 rating due to it's gory and bloody scenes. This movie shows some creepy scenes, tense situations, gore and grisly bloodshed that will keep you on the alert and cringing.

The movie is set in a France political era whereby riots and looters take advantage of protest session of a hated political figure in the city. These group of looters seek hideout from an old inn after being hunted by the police. Thought to be safe from the long arm of the law, they find themselves trapped in the inn by a group of neo-Nazi cannibals that started to hunt them down for their feasty killings.

Not to be missed, if you have a penchant for gory, horror flick. Make a date to watch with a friend and select theater listings.

Pinatas, traditionally was believed to be used by Mexicans Indians as a way to depict their idols or to worship their gods. As time goes by, these 'idols' become a highlight in their festivals, called LaPossada. When the Spanish discovered Mexico later, it became such a popular item that it was sent to Spain and Portugal and thus is now something that becomes a big hit at parties.

How does one make a Pinata? Ready made Pinatas are hand made and meticulously painted and is an art themselves. If you would like to make your own Pinata, it would save you alot of money and will also be the talk of the party too.

To make a Pinata:

You will need newspaper, torn into thick wide strips.
Water based glue
A balloon
Paint and lots of crepes or colour papers

Begin by inflating the balloon and tie a knot. Soak the strips of newspaper in a small bucket of water. Paste the strips on the balloon covering the balloon. Do a vertical then horizontal layering to get a thicker secure later. In between the strips, paint a layer of glue so that when it is dried the strips of the paper will be stuck on to each other securely. Dry the paper after you have pasted at least 10 layears of paper on the balloon. When it is dried, pop the balloon with a pin. There should be a hole where the balloon knot is. Keep this hole open for filling of the sweets later on.

You are ready to paint your pinata or dress it up with lots of papers, ribbons or create patterns on it. When the artwork is complete and dry, poke some holes near the opening for you to tie a string around it for hanging purpose. Next, fill the balloon with sweets, candies and and cover the whole by pasting a small piece of cardboard securely.

Have fun hitting the pinata!

I found a very good site on making pinatas. Tips and how to avoid some mistakes too. Here is his site.

Some parents dismissed their kids as being very naughty or mischievious when they are young. True enough, kids love to run about and they do have lots of energy to be everywhere. However when it cmoes to studies, they have difficulties concentrating since they are so energetic. Did you know that when they are in school and if the problem persists, the parent or teacher should monitor the kid closely.

Out of 100 kids,9% have ADHD. ADHD kids have short attention span and they have trouble sitting still. These kids are hyperactive and they should not be compared with the other regular kids. They also should not be dismissed as being a problem kid.

Boys tend to have it about 3x more than girls. Some kids can be helped with some medication or theraphy. But in some cases both may work best. Read about ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) here.

Get ready for a movie that will change the way you look at horror and suspense. I was watching the trailer for Frontier(s), a new Horror movie set to be released on May 9th. The DVD version will be released several days later.

A story about a group of men and a woman, who are crooks. An unsuccessful heist sent them fleeing from the cops and ended up hiding in an old looking shabby hostel. Certainly not the very best place to be because this building is no ordinary hostel. It belongs to a family of neo-Nazi cannibals who finds their visit a dream come true for their gory fetish feasts. Trapped and no where to run, these group of robbers find themselves being tortured and frightened out of their wits and horrified by the cannibalistic acts.

The trailer shows some scarey scenes from the movie, and the sound effects filled with unnerving stomps got my heart beating very fast. Guaranteed to make you cringe with fear and set a new record for most horrific film of the year. This French horror film is written and directored by Xavior Gens is literally laced with so much gory, bloodshed and violence. Not suitable for those under 17. This movie earned its NC-17 due to it's extreme violence and brutal scenes.

This is a favourite recipe of mine which is popular with the kids, especially birthday parties. It was actually a tart recipe but I call it Oreo tarts because it has Oreo cookies in them.

The crust
16 Oreo cookies, crushed in a food processor
60g of butter, softened

The fudge
60g sugar
125ml whole milk
200g dark, chocolate - broken unsweetened chocolate
50g butter

Mix the crushed Oreo cookies with the softened butter and chill it in the fridge for about an hour.
Grease your tart cases or you can use cup cake trays. Pressed the cookie mixture hard into the cases till u get the shape of the mould of a small crust case. Chill these Oreo moulds in the fridge at least 6-8 hours or overnight.

Make the fudge by combining the sugar and milk in the saucepan. In low heat, stir them till the sugar is dissolved. When it starts to simmer, stir in the broken chocolate pieces and stir till they are melted. Let it cool and chill in the fridge untill it is slightly hardened. This is the fudge that you can use to pipe or spoon into the little Oreo crusts and serve.

I was looking for craft ideas for my kids when I chance upon homemade solutions to Bubbles. Boy, my girls really love Bubbles and I do spend a great amount of money on Bubble Solution, and Blowers off the shelf. My kids love to fix on these battery operated bubble blower (Ariel, the Little Mermaid) and when the solution for bubbles have been used up, I usually buy large bottles to fill it up.

When I found homemade bubble solution recipe online, I was totally ecstatic. When I was young, I used to experiment with soap, water or dishwashing liquid with water and mix them into a solution. Although they do make some bubbles, the bubbles pops very fast and do not stretch into big large ones since they had already popped.

Now I realised that there is this extra ingredient that is important for the bubble solution. This ingredient is Glycerin. You can get them at pharmacies, no problem. So I thought since it is so simple and easy to make bubbles, I shan't have to spend a bomb on bubble solutions anymore. And I'd like to share them with you here.

The recipes that I have picked out are quite simple. They use a certain brand (JOY) of dishwashing liquid which I cannot find in where I am but I'm sure you can try it with others until you find the right one.

This recipe is from Exploratorium website.
2/3 cup Joy dishwashing soap
1 gallon water
2 to 3 tablespoons of glycerin

This recipe is from Kids Domain Craft Exchange
1/2 (500 ml) cup dishwashing detergent
4-1/2 (4.5 liter) cup water
4 tablespoons (60 ml) glycerin

This recipe is from NWF Backyard Bubbles
1/4 cup liquid dishwashing detergent
3/4 cup cold water
5 drops of glycerin

I hope you will have fun with these homemade bubble solutions!

I learnt some helpful tips that a freshly made bubble solution pops at shorter lifespan. If you leave it out in an open container overnight, you will obtain bubbles that last longer. Also, use soap liquids that are exclusively used for hand washing purpose. Avoid contact with grease, alcohol or other impurities when you are making bubble solution. Use water that has been standing for 4 hours or perhaps overnight if possible as some water contain minerals that may not be desirable for bubble production.
