Attract Lovers on Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is 2 weeks away. Do you have a date? Or do you have a date with someone you really want to go out with? Well, if you are still searching, perhaps these tips might work for you, or it might not.. Metals and Stones were used in secrets of romance. History dates back to century-old love spells to attract lovers and the opposite sex. The modern times evolve till now it is being used as gifts to love ones, like the chains, rings and pendants you received from your lover or spouse.

Read how these metals or stones were used.

Silver is the most powerful love metal. It's the metal of the moon and helps the moon iluminate the love within you. Anything silver (candle-sticks, vases, cups) on your love altar can increase the power of your magic. Love spells kept in a silver box can multiply in strength. Wear a green stone set in a silver ring to attract fervent passion and romance to your life. Place a silver disk under a pink candle and visualise love coming to you; you may well find the love that you seek.

Amethyst is the stone of pure true emotional love. To fortify existing love, give your lover a heart shaped amethyst set in silver. When jilted by a lover, hold an amethyst in your left hand. Fill it with all your rage and sorrows, then vehemently toss it away. Now you're ready for a new love to find you.

Rose Quartz is the healing stone. It heals love's wounds and eases wounded hearts. Wear a heart shaped rose quartz to purify your love. Give it to your lover to ensure fidelity.

CLEANING YOUR UPHOLSTERY

When you have kids in the house, you just have to try all sorts of stuff to get rid of their icky hands. No. 2 works well if you have toddler during toilet training time...like my little girl. She would let you know she's urgent and she would just pee on the spot. Now she's off her training pants and she can sleep through the night anyway.

It is good to store lots of baking soda at home. I buy them by the half dozens, really. hahaha for cooking and for my fridge too. Gets rid of unpleasant smells.

Another spring cleaning tip for you!

Carpets/Upholstery

1) A great non-toxic carpet stain remover is club soda. Soak spot immediately with soda and blot until the stain is gone.

2) Pet Urine on Carpets: Dab area with toweling to absorb as much as possible, wash spot with liquid dish detergent, and rinse with 1/2 cup vinegar diluted in 1 qt warm water. Lay towels or paper towels over the spot and weight down to absorb excess moisture. Let stand 4 to 6 hours, then remove toweling, brush up nap and allow to dry completely. Use an electric fan to speed drying.

3) Red wine stains can be removed from carpet by rubbing baking soda in and vacuuming.

4) Sprinkle cornstarch onto carpet, vacuum.

5) To remove grease spots from carpets, first sop up the liquid with a sponge, then rub a liberal amount of baking soda into the spot. Let it absorb overnight. Next day, remove the excess and vacuum the area.

6) To remove grease spots from carpets, first absorb excess with a sponge, then rub a liberal amount of corn starch into the spot. Let sit overnight, then vacuum.

7) Dry cornstarch sprinkled on rug and vacuumed.

8) Carpet Fresher-4 cups baking soda or cornstarch, 35 drops Eucalyptus essential oil, 30 drops Lavender essential oil, 25 drops Rosewood essential oil or any combination of your favorite essentail oils Measure 4 cups of baking soda into a bowl, add essential oils. Break up any clumps that form, stir until well mixed. Before vacuuming sprinkle powder from a shaker type can or jar. Let it sit on the carpet for about 15 minutes then vacuum.

9) Herbal Carpet Freshener-1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup lavender flowers. Crush the lavender flowers to release their scent. Mix well with baking soda and sprinkle liberally on carpets. Vacuum after 30 minutes.

10) Sprinkle baking soda on carpets before vacuuming for a natural rug deodorizer

CAR CARE TIPS

I bet these ones you've never tried before. Some of my friends prefer to go for commercial waxes for the car or just send them to the car polisher. But really you can make it youself and save heaps! I mean Lets go GREEN. Purchasing the commercial ones means demand for plastics and we should be thinking of how to save the environment, right? Also it is good exercise to do all the waxing.. keep your arms from sagging..

Windshield Wiper Frost Free Fluid
Mix 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water and coat the car windows with thissolution. This vinegar and water combination will keep windshields ice and frost-free.

Car Wax
1 cup linseed oil, 4 tbsp. caranuba wax (available at automotive stores), 2 tbsp. beeswax, and 1/2 cup vinegar.

Put ingredients in top half of a double boiler or saucepan. Heat slowly until wax has melted. Stir, and pour into a heat resistant container. After wax has solidified, rub it on the car with a lint-free cloth. Saturate a corner of a cotton rag with vinegar and polish the wax to a deep shine.

Car Soap
1/4 cup vegetable oil based liquid soap, and hot water. Mix in pail. Wash your car on the lawn instead of your driveway to reduce runoff to the street or storm sewer.

GETTING RID OF PESTS

Fleas and Ticks

Wash pets with castile soap and water, dry thoroughly, apply an herbal rinse made by adding 1/2 cup fresh or dried rosemary to a quart of boiling water (steep for 20 minutes, strain and cool. Spray or sponge onto pets hair, massage into skin. Let air dry, do NOT towel dry as this removes the residue of the rosemary.

Roaches:

1) Mix equal parts boric acid with flour , sprinkle around cracks and crevices

2) Mix equal parts boric acid with sugar, sprinkle around cracks and crevices

3) Mix equal parts boric acid with corn meal, sprinkle around cracks and crevices

4) Diatomaceous earth (pure silica): sprinkle around flours, cracks and crevices

5) Cucumber peels: set out on counter tops overnight to repel roaches

6) Mix Borax with a little brown sugar and flour and sprinkle behind appliances, under sink, and in corners. Cockroaches carry the mixture back to their nests.

CAUTION: Boric Acid and borax can be toxic to children and pets, keep well out of their reach and inform other household members of the whereabouts and purpose of the borax and boric acid dough and/or powders.

CLEANING YOUR OVEN

I found these helpful tips while on stumbleupon recently. I believe if you are a die-hard kitchen fanatic, you'd probably try many ways to keep your oven clean and smelling nice.

Oven Cleaners:
1) The first step is prevention. Put a sheet of aluminum foil on the floor of the oven, underneath but not touching the heating element.
2) Clean up the spill as soon as it occurs.
3) While the oven is still warm, sprinkle salt or baking soda on the spill. If the spill is completely dry, wet the spill lightly before sprinkling on salt. When the oven cools, scrape away the spill and wash the area clean.
4) Baking soda, water; salt; vegetable oil-based liquid soap. Sprinkle water on oven bottom. Cover with baking soda. Let sit overnight. Wipe off and apply liquid soap with scouring pad. Rinse.
5) Retard grease buildup in your oven by dampening your cleaning rag in vinegar and water before wiping out your oven.
6) Sprinkle/spray water followed by a layer of baking soda. Rub gently with a very fine steel wool pad for tough spots. Wipe off scum with dry paper towels or sponge. Rinse well and wipe dry.
7) 2 tablespoons vegetable oil-based liquid soap, 2 tablespoons borax: Mix the soap and borax in a spray bottle. Fill the bottle with hot water and shake well. Spray on oven and leave for 20 minutes. Scrub off.
8) LAST RESORT ONLY: Fill a small glass bowl with 1/2 cup full-strength ammonia, place in oven and close. Let stand overnight, then wipe loosened dirt with paper towels or newspapers. If necessary, rub surfaces with an abrasive, such as fine steel wool, then wash with warm soapy water and rinse. Repeat process if necessary. Provide plenty of fresh air and wear gloves.

EASY PEASY POUND CAKES (RICH & BUTTERY)

I tried out Shirley's pound cake the other day. We'd been exchanging cake recipes and she had one which was a simple pound cake. This one uses a whole slab of butter (250gm) and very little flour. A mix of plain and self raising flour actually. The steps were also simple actually. The end result was quite good. I need not separate the yolks and the whites. Also I could make two batches at the same time. Only at the end when folding the flour, I use separate bowls to make a different variety.

I did an original pound cake first batch and for the second batch, I replaced 50gm of the plain flour with cocoa powder and added half a teaspoon of baking powder in case the cake was too heavy. I baked it for 30mins at moderate heat and because of the high ration of butter against the ingredients, it probably needed no greasing if you used pans. It was moist and buttery, just the way I love my pound cakes. I made them into cup cakes. (100gm each of big ones since i only have big paper cups).

It uses only 100gm of sugar so its not sweet compared to most of the recipes I've used. I reckon you can also add the grated rind of orange to make it a little zesty. Thanks, Shirley. Gonna be making them in batches with Almonds and Bittersweet Choc Chips. It's a hit with my family.

HOME REMEDY FOR HAIR

I have very fine and thin hair. I read before that eggs are very good for types like mine. I agree, I've tried this remedy for some time and it does help. Could be the nutrition in the egg yolks, maybe.

The one on the beer is a popular remedy too. I tried it twice but not too sure if it really works.. hahaha but my friend did say my hair glimmered. Not sure if that is the effect. But try it with Kilkenny or Barons. Expensive but pinched some from hubby..lol

Eggs
Use it to: Add strength to damaged, weakened hair
Why it works: Eggs’ high protein content helps improve hair’s resilience and luster. How-to: Whisk together 1 egg, 2 tablespoons coconut oil, and 2 tablespoons sesame oil. Apply the mixture to dry hair and wrap a hot, moist towel around your head. Relax for 5 to 10 minutes. Without wetting hair first, work in a handful of shampoo, and then rinse and condition your hair.

Beer
Use it to: Pump up flat, dull hair
Why it works: Yeast and hops help to swell the hair shaft and plump the cuticle, adding volume. The acidity of the beer helps remove built-up product residue. How-to: In the shower, after you’ve shampooed, pour a bottle of beer over your hair, Philip B. advises. Rinse briefly with fresh water (the idea is to avoid the Eau de Barfly effect while retaining the beer’s body-boosting benefits). A rich beer with a high yeast content works best. (Read: No light beer.)

HE LOVES ME, HE LOVES ME NOT

We see and hear people do and say this all the time. However, the true way of doing it is misrepresented. I have a little alchemist book about love, and in this book this is what it taught us.

If you want to know the outcome of a love affair is going to be, pick a flower with many petals. Pull off one petal at a time. For each petal, recite one line from the poem following. If you finish the poem before all of the petals are pulled, start the poem over. The last line you recite at the last petal will tell you what you want to know.

He Loves Me. He Loves Me Not.
He will Marry Me. He Won't.
This Year. Next Year.
Now. Never.

HISTORY OF FORTUNE COOKIES

There was never fortune cookies when I grew up. It was more like home-made cookies and cakes. But in the commercial world, it was fortune cookies. You watch that on TVs, in movies and sitcoms. In the restaurant, some use it as a strategy to make some customers happy. Most of the readings inside are mainly very philosophical, or positive. We all need good energy to make ourselves happy. So what is it with Fortune Cookies?

Fortune Cookies was a transition from mooncakes. Dating back to the 13th and 14th Century, mooncakes were used as a 'host' to contain secret messages passed on against invaders in China.

The days of American gold rush sees many labourers who were Chinese and poor. Not being able to afford moon cakes, fortune cookies were born simply because it was more affordable. The concept of the secret message inside the mooncake soon were adopted but happy and lucky messages were added into the cookies. Soon these novelty caught on before long the Chinese settlement in San Francisco had the idea of Fortune Cookies borned for commercial purposes. By 1964 the first automated production of Fortune Cookies were then started.

FORTUNE COOKIE

I managed to get a fortune cookie that is simple to do. I've tried some but it can get a bit tricky especiall the folding part. I figured Fortune Cookies are quite similar to Brandy Snaps, except that these are thicker biscuits. It's great for a party. Make your own slips of fortune or maybe quotes. Otherwise you could also slip numbers so that during Christmas time you can actually do a Raffles Draw for your guests! Have fun.

INGREDIENTS
3 egg whites
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons water

DIRECTIONS Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets, or line with parchment paper. Have fortunes ready to go on small strips of paper.

In a large glass or metal bowl, whip egg whites and sugar on high speed of an electric mixer until frothy, about 2 minutes. Reduce speed to low, and stir in melted butter, vanilla, almond extract, water and flour one at a time, mixing well after each. Consistency should resemble pancake batter. Spoon the batter into 3 inch circles on the prepared baking sheets. Leave room between for spreading.

Bake for 5 to 7 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges begin to brown slightly. Quickly remove one at a time, place a message in the center, and fold in half. Fold the ends of the half together into a horse shoe shape. If they spring open, place them in a muffin tin to cool until set.

HOME REMEDY FOR SKIN II

We all could do with more home remedy. I cannot afford all those fancy facials at the spa. There are so many hidden costs and things you need to add as you go along. Like how about this and that. End of they day, they will say, you need to buy this to maintain it or what you have done will not be worth it. So I end up with a couple of hundreds at the spa just when I thought it was going to be one simple facial!

Oatmeal is great for skin. And fibre if you eat it in the mornings.. I had that alternate days once, but got sick of it after a month.. Who wouldn't be..hahaha

Oatmeal
Use it to: Calm and soften skin

Why it works: Soothing and anti-inflammatory, oatmeal contains beta glucan, a soluble fiber that creates a thin, moisture-retaining film on the surface of the skin.
How-to: Close suggests placing a handful of whole oats in a clean washcloth and using a rubber band to secure it. Next, immerse it in a sinkful of warm water and squeeze the bag 4 or 5 times. Once the water is cloudy, splash it on your face and then air-dry. (If you must towel dry, pat as gently as possible.)

Avocado oil
Use it to: Repair dry, sensitive skin

Why it works: Avocado oil’s abundant fatty acids help balance skin’s moisture levels, and the antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E protect skin from further damage.
How-to: Combine equal parts avocado oil and evening-primrose oil (which supports collagen synthesis with its gamma linoleic acid) in a sealable bottle and shake to blend. Massage 5 or 6 drops into clean skin, and then cover your face with a warm washcloth for a minute to help the oils sink in.
